Manchester City defender Kolo Toure has urged his teammates to learn from defeat to Bayern Munich
Manchester City defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kolo-c21278 Toure has gone on to admit that his City really need to learn from their loss against Bayern Munich, if they are to stand any chance of progressing to the next round of the Champions League.
City took to the game high on confidence and were looking to pick up all three points against their German opponents. However, despite having started the game well, the City defence managed to fall apart on two occasions and let Mario Gomez sneak two goals into the back of the City net.
Toure returned to the City squad after six months of being banned from the game. The defender suffered the ban due to some dietary pills that he took, but with them containing illegal substances, he was forced to sit out for six months.
Nonetheless, in the short time that he has spent back with the team, he seems to already be well aware of the fact that his side really need to step their game up. Toure admits that the team’s defending was quite poor and they really needed to get their act together.
When talking about the game, Toure is quoted to have said: “We started the game well”
“Then we started to not defend as a team and I think in the Champions League you need to be able to defend from the start of the game to the end.”
“I think that’s why we lost tonight, because we didn’t defend as well as we have been doing.”
Soon after, Toure went on to reveal that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Mancini had asked the team to play as hard as they could and to work as a unit.
“He [Mancini] told us to play harder and defend as a team,” he added.
Despite that fact, it seems like City were just unable to break down the resilient Munich side, who used their surplus experience to get the better of their opponents and secure the win.
Apart from this game being the first loss that City have suffered in all competitions, it has also revealed that the team’s defence is not quite at the same standards as the team’s offensive unit.
So far City had been picking up wins due to the brilliance of their attackers, but should they want to progress on the European stage, they are going to have to rethink their defensive strategies.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mancini-c23323 really has his work cut out for him, but given the managers experience at handling teams, he might just be able to find a solution which could see City become one solid unit, capable of pushing their opponents in every department on the pitch.
