Manchester City defender Micah Richards reminds Carlos Alberto of himself
Brazilian legend, Carlos Alberto, revealed he felt that the Manchester City defender, Micah Richards, could be the future captain of England’s national team.
Alberto, who captained the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brazil-c2858 team in the 1970 World Cup, said he thought the England international was similar to him when he was a player.
During his time with the Brazilian team, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Micah-Richards-c25259 made his debut
at 17 years old.
While Alberto felt the Manchester City defender was excellent, he was certain the City defender would improve with age. The Brazilian revealed he had been keeping a watch on Richards and had observed his progress since he made his debut for England against
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Netherlands-c753.
The former Santos and New York Cosmos star revealed he had observed Richards take on the likes of top players such as, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thierry-Henry-c34918, none of whom had managed to get past him, for both club and country.
Despite being only 22, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international has come a long way since he first started out. He is already on his way to becoming one of the best defenders in the English Premier League. Alberto was certain the player would only improve as his career
progressed.
Alberto said while speaking to reporters, “He is only 22 and has the experience and knows what he wants and where he wants to go. He reminds me a little bit of myself. He can play with the ball well. I know his original position was midfield”.
The Brazilian continued, “To me, possibilities for him to become captain of the English national team seem a very obvious path for such a player. But to become the best in his position in the world would only fulfil the promise I saw in him as a 17-year
old”.
He was certain Micah was on his way to a brilliant career, he said, “Talent and ability like that is rare and I've seen football across the world. He even went out of the national team and has not complained or made noise, he is just concentrating on playing
well for his club”.
Richards made his debut for the Manchester City senior side in 2005 against Arsenal and that season earned the Young Player of the Year award. In only his second season he was targeted by Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who offered £5 million for
the attacking right back.
He stayed at the Eastlands though and since then has gone on to make 157 appearances in all competitions and has found the back of the net 9 times. He is well into his sixth season at the club and seems determined to remain with the Citizens for the time
being.
