Manchester City defender urges team-mates to keep high standards
Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany hopes that he and his team-mates can keep up their good form following a strong display against Fulham in the English Premier League on Sunday 21 November.
The Citizens triumphed 4-1 at Craven Cottage after manager Roberto Mancini allowed his expensive first-team stars to go off the leash and run rampant against a side which reached the UEFA Europa League final last season.
Captain Carlos Tevez struck twice to take his league tally for the season to nine goals, while Paulo Zabaleta and Yaya Toure also netted for the visiting side. Zoltan Gera hit back for the home side, but it was too little, too late for Mark Hughes' men.
As a result of the win, City moved back into fourth place, now just three points behind leaders Chelsea and Manchester United and can be considered as real title contenders.
Kompany is hoping that Mancini will opt to retain the same attacking approach after it proved fruitful against Fulham.
He told reporters that: "We have actually had a couple of good performances recently, but this one was of a very high standard. When we came in at half-time we said to each other: 'This is the standard we have to expect from ourselves now for the whole season.
There is not one minute of this season that we want to play less well than we have today.' If the team shows this mentality it is a good thing.
"The ambition of any team in the top six should be to compete with Chelsea and Manchester United. There is no reason to suggest why it would not be possible. But there is still a lot of work to be done. If other teams want to talk about the title they are
free to do so."
City will next play Stoke City away on Saturday 27 November, and will be facing a team that have won four, drawn one and lost two of their home games this season to help them to eighth place in the EPL table.
