Manchester City genuine League contenders: Sir Alex Ferguson
Manchester United’s legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said that Manchester City are genuine Barclays Premier League title contender this season.
18-time Premier League champions, Manchester United are currently the only side which is unbeaten in both Premier League and UEFA Champions League.
The Red Devils are currently leading the Barclays Premier League table and have played fewer games than any of the other top four teams. Manchester City are in second spot and share equal points with United. Sir Alex said that the fact that both clubs are
now challenging for the title would add extra spice to the contest.
Ferguson stated, "It does put an edge on [the game]. I don't believe there's any question about that. We know the kind of money they're spending - they've bought another five or six players in the summer and they'll keep doing that until they win something."
He added, "You know that's going to be the way it is and you have to deal with it as it comes along. They're up there [challenging for the title], and you can't wait until tomorrow when there's something there today. I'm sure they're thinking that way themselves."
Manchester City’s defender Kompany believes his team would still improve and hopes that Citizens will qualify for UEFA Champions League at the end of the season.
Kompany added, “We have picked ourselves up and are looking forward. It is interesting and things are going in a good way for us. We have played maybe the five best teams in the country in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and kept four clean
sheets against them. Those teams usually score for fun but we have done well to contain them."
Manchester City won their last match against Aston Villa by thrashing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gerard-c14664 Houllier’s men by four goals at Eastlands. Moreover, the Citizens are unbeaten since November 2010 when Roberto Mancini’s men lost to Arsenal.
Citizens will play their next match against Blackpool on 1 January 2011.
