Manchester City looking to sell and Raúl chooses Schalke
Benfica defender David Luiz will cost the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid £33million.
Manchester City are believed to be leading the chase for the Brazilian ahead of Real Madrid, while City will end their interest in Aston Villa’s James Milner after talks stalled, and they will try to sell Craig Bellamy, Stephen Ireland and Roque Santa Cruz.
Manchester City will sell Santa Cruz for less than half of the £18million they paid for him to Marseille, while the French champions could also land Emmanuel Adebayor as well. Another Man City striker Jô might be heading to Blackburn, who are keen to sign the Brazilian.
Sami Khedira is close to signing for Real Madrid, with Chelsea and Manchester United likely to miss out on the German midfielder. Khedira featured at the World Cup and always looked to be heading out of his club Stuttgart after some sterling performances.
Raúl, who emotionally announced his departure from Real Madrid this week, will make the switch to German side Schalke 04; Tottenham Hotspur were interested in him as were Newcastle. Maxi Rodriguez looks set to depart Liverpool, with Espanyol wanting to bring him back to Spain. Liverpool meanwhile have agreed a fee of £2.5million with Aston Villa to sign full-back Luke Young.
Former Portsmouth goalkeeper David James will hold talks with Celtic. England’s No.1 is also attracting the interest of Fulham, while Ronnie Stam could seal a £2million deal to Wigan Athletic.
Blackpool will sign Dekel Keinan from Maccabi Haifa, but are losing the fight to bring Tom Cleverley on loan from Manchester United, while Eidur Gudjohnsen is wanted by Birmingham City and Fulham.
Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger will attempt to bring Werder Bremen’s Per Mertesacker to the Emirates. Following Sol Campbell’s move to Newcastle, Wenger hopes £10million will be enough to land the German defender. Arsenal have also been put on alert for goalkeeper Federico Marchetti after his club Cagliari made him available on the transfer market.
Macoumba Kandji of New York Red Bulls is closely being tracked by several clubs from the Premier League after he has played impressively in pre-season friendlies, while Queens Park Rangers will offer £1.45million for Reading’s Jobi McAnuff.
Leeds United striker Luciano Becchio looks to be heading out of the club, while Derby County manager Nigel Clough wants Jason Scotland on loan, and Sheffield United boss Kevin Blackwell will sign Jean Calve from Nancy.
