Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini backs Chelsea’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 to start firing soon
Manchester City coach Roberto Mancini has come to defence of the misfiring Fernando Torres, claiming that the striker will soon be back to his former self.
The Italian’s comments come just before his side travels to Stamford Bridge to face http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 in a crucial Premier League encounter.
Fernando Torres was signed by Chelsea on the final day of the January 2011 transfer window. The Blues paid a whopping 50 million pounds for the Spaniard’s services, but so far, their investment has not yielded any profits. Torres has been unable to justify
his phenomenal price tag in the two months he has been at Stamford Bridge.
The striker still has not scored for his new club, prompting comparisons to Chelsea flop http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Andriy-Shevchenko-c6014, who also failed to spark with the London side after his big money arrival.
However, Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini believes that it is only a matter of time before Torres hits the goal trail. He believes that the Spaniard is facing a similar situation as Edin Dzeko, who also changed allegiances during the same transfer
window.
Dzeko is Roberto Mancini’s latest signing for the Sky Blues, but he too has found it difficult to gel with his new teammates.
Speaking on Torres’ performances for Chelsea, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mancini-c23323 said, “Torres is a fantastic player. Maybe he is like Edin at this moment because they are both in new teams and it is not easy. You need time to understand different team-mates.”
He added, “But Torres is always dangerous. And like Edin, when he starts to score he will be a big problem for opposition defences.”
Sunday’s encounter between Manchester City and Chelsea promises to be a tense affair, as both clubs have much at stake in the match. Both sides need a win to keep alive their wafer thin hopes of winning the Barclays Premier League title. Not even a draw
will be enough at this stage, especially since leaders Manchester United are already so far ahead in the title race.
