Manchester City may need another month to show its best form says Roberto Mancini
Manchester City manager has claimed that his side needs at least another month to reach its full height, considering the amount of quality the side possesses. Manchester City have spent more than a hundred million pounds this summer to bring in some of the
top talents in Europe, which include Yaya Toure, David Silva, Jerome Boateng and James Milner to name a few. The club has been on a spending spree since its takeover by Abu Dhabi Group in 2008.
Man City would be travelling to West Bromwich Albion for the first stage of Carling Cup. They finally managed to register their first away win of the season at Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend, following their frustrating draws to Sunderland and Blackburn
Rovers. It took an inspirational performance by the club captain, Carlos Tevez, who scored the first goal as well as crafted the second one, to dismantle the Wolves at DW Stadium on Saturday.
With their mega fixture against Chelsea on the weekend, the return to form by the outfit couldn’t come at a better time. Last season, Manchester City were the only side who had managed to defeat the Blues on both home and away legs. Such a result this season
would bolster their chances of finishing higher than their 5th place finish last season. However, the side currently has a long injury list as the manager asks for more patience from the Eastlands’ faithful.
"It will be after the next international break before you see the best of us, maybe one more month. I need the opportunity to work with all the players, which has not happened since the season began. In the meantime, it is important that we stay near the
top and don't lose any more ground. If we can stay very close with the players we have at the moment, we will be able to move closer when the others come back” argued the former Inter Milan manager.
City, at present, seems to have no more space to sign new players and any more signings would add fuel to an already explosive situation. Some reports have claimed that many of the players feel ignored and unwanted at the club, owing to being a part of the
country’s most expensive side. Players like Craig Bellamy, Stephen Ireland, Shay Given and Emmanuel Adebayor are only a few names who have made the news headlines for unfavourable reasons.
The manager commented on this by saying that he is well aware of all the frustrations at the camp and his demanding nature may well change with a single trophy which would finally put an end to City’s 36 trophy-less years. The Italian, thus, remains convinced
that things would change for the better, should the overall mentality of the club changes. Mancini stated that he too has played football in his senior career and has suffered from the same mentality. That is why he understands the situation and therefore
such things are not frustrating for him.
He emphasized that it is important for the players to change their mentality and if they want to win things and become a strong unit, the negativity needs to be left out of the training ground. Mancini insisted that it was disappointing to see that every
now and then, players give negative remarks about the club and complain about not getting to play. What they simply need to do is to come to the manager’s office and discuss the problem with me. Mancini aimed to create a friendly environment, like the one
Chelsea and Manchester United currently employ.
