Manchester City midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Adam-Johnson-c3537 has expressed his disappointment on their title bid in the ongoing 2010-11 season after the heavy spending last summer.
He claimed that the Citizens should have been higher on the Premier League standings table with the quality and the squad depth they have.
The Sky Blues are currently in fourth place with 62 points and are 11 points behind leaders and city rivals Manchester United, having a game in hand.
Johnson insisted that with the quality of players in the squad, City should have been competing for the title with the likes of Manchester United and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786. He claimed that his side can still beat Arsenal for a third spot finish. The difference between
the two sides would be only two points if City beat Everton in their next fixture.
“I'm disappointed that we are not in there. Personally, I think we should be and a lot of neutral people think we should be with the squad we have. But there was a couple of iffy results which we should have won,” the winger was quoted as saying in an interview.
The former Middlesbrough player stated that the club’s target at the start of the season was to finish in the top two but injuries to some of the key players led to some poor results recently. He revealed that the main objective would be to play in the UEFA
Champions League next season now.
The Englishman admitted that the Citizens are close to qualifying for the Champions League after the 2-1 triumph against West Ham United over the weekend and a win would almost cement that position.
“At the start of the season we wanted to be top two and having been in the top four all season we want to keep pushing. We might yet finish even higher than fourth. But that result at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 didn't mean we thought Spurs could catch us. We knew we still
had a few points on them and we've pushed that gap to seven, which is massive for us,” the midfielder concluded.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international has scored 8 goals from a total of 29 appearances for the Manchester club this season.
