Manchester City midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gareth-Barry-c14423 says fourth spot priority for Citizens
Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry has said that qualifying for the 2011-12 season’s UEFA Champions League is the priority for the club now.
City dropped points again recently after a 1-1 draw against London side Fulham at the City of Manchester Stadium. The midfielder said that it was highly unlikely that his club will win the Premier League title in the ongoing 2010-11 season.
Barry said his team lacked the spirit to win against Fulham and the atmosphere was missing. The midfielder added that they failed to capitalise on the early goal from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mario-Balotelli-c23937 and allowed the Cottagers to equalise, making the game difficult for themselves
after that. He said that the games like these had to be won if a team has to challenge for the Premier League title but City had missed the bus.
“Once we got the goal, I thought it would kick-start us and we would go and get another one. But then they scored and we found it difficult to break them down. If you are going to challenge for the title, you have to win games like this at home,” said the
midfielder.
Barry insisted that the main priority now for the Manchester club is to finish in the top four to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. He said that other competitions like UEFA Europa League and the FA Cup had been important for the club all season but
now their main target remains the top four.
“The cup competitions have been important to us all season, although fourth spot in the league is our main target,” said the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international.
Manchester City are currently third on the Premier League table with 50 points and are 10 points behind Manchester United. They have also played a game more than the champions.
The Citizens missed the chance of closing in on the Red Devils as they lost at Old Trafford in their last Premier League fixture and dropped two more points against Fulham over the weekend.
City now face tough competition from Tottenham Hotspur and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 for a fourth place in the Premier League.
