Manchester City midfielder Nigel De Jong is confident his side can overtake Arsenal, who have been in poor form off-late, and still finish third in the Premier League. He stated that the Citizens will certainly qualify for the UEFA Champions League next
season and beat Tottenham Hotspur to the fourth spot.
Manchester City defeated Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 at Ewood Park as Edin Dzeko scored a late winner to secure all three points. Roberto Mancini’s side are now heading the race to finish fourth on the standings table after Tottenham drew their respective fixture against
West Bromwich Albion at White Hart Lane.
De Jong insisted that the team is aiming for the highest possible finish this season and they could well end in third place with only five points separating City and Arsenal with the Sky Blues having a game in hand. He stated that his side will have to win
all the remaining matches in the League to strengthen chances of overtaking the Gunners.
“Of course we have to aim for the highest position and a lot of rivals dropped points [at the weekend] and the only thing we can do is focus for the last couple of games and try and get three points every time we go out. The most important game of the weekend
for us and we have to remain focused and you never know we could get third but at least fourth,” he was quoted.
The Dutchman also heaped praise on teammate Edin Dzeko who scored his first Premier League goal against Blackburn on Monday night. He revealed that the home side started brilliantly after the interval but admitted that the Bosnian was the difference between
the two sides.
“It’s been a tough couple of months for him [Dzeko] but he gets stronger and stronger each day and we’re happy that he scored today that gave us three points. It’s a collective thing, not an individual thing and we are just happy that we can progress to
the end of the season and collect a very welcome three points,” concluded the Holland international.
The former Hamburg midfielder has made a total of 78 appearances for the Eastlands club and is yet to score his first goal for the outfit.
