Manchester City defeat Stoke City 3-0 to move to third place in the English Premiere League
Two magical moments of sheer genius from Manchester City’s Argentinean striker Carlos Tevez guided his team to the brink of automatic qualification for the UEFA Champions league, as they moved above Arsenal in the Barclays Premier
League rankings onto the third spot.
After http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429’s shocking loss to Aston Villa at the weekend, the destiny of the third automatic qualification spot was in the hands of City, who grabbed the opportunity by both hands last night as they beat Stoke City 3-0 at the City
of Manchester Stadium.
It was the second meeting between the two sides in 3 days as after beating Stoke in the FA Cup final, the Citizens showed it was no fluke as they totally dominated the proceedings last night against the Potters.
Carloz Tevez opened the scoring on the night when he exchanged a one-two with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wilson-c36932 and Shawcross and slotting past Sorensen with remarkable ease.
Despite an entertaining first half, with both teams trying to get the better of eachother, the ref blew for half time with the score 1-0 in favour of the hosts.
Soon after the restart, City doubled their advantage when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joleon-Lescott-c18941 headed in from close range.
Adam Johnson’s looping free kick send the ball hanging in the air inside the box and Lescott was the first one to react as he bravely headed the ball into the net past an onrushing Sorenson.
City’s third goal was a joy to behold as Carlos Tevez bended in a 30-yard free kick in a manner that would have made http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Beckham-c10432 proud.
From 30 yards out, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carlos-c8346 Tevez got the ball past the wall and swerved it no less than two meters in the air to leave Sorenson awestruck.
The goal was a sheer master class by the Argentinean and a reminder, if City needed any, that the Citizens should do everything in their powers to keep hold of the talismanic striker.
The victory puts City firmly in control of their own destiny as they now hold a one-point advantage over Arsenal with just one game remaining in the season, and with their last game of the season against Bolton, no one is betting against
the Citizens to avoid the tricky Champions League qualifier.
Arsene Wenger’s men will face Fulham in their last match of the season but the impetus lies with City, who only have to match the result of their Lonodn rivals.
Automatic qualification for the UEFA Champions League and a win in the FA Cup can hardly be regarded as an underachievement for a side that has longed for a major trophy for more than 34 years.
No matter how much http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mancini-c23323 is criticized for his ‘Italian style’ of football, the fact remains that he has put his team on the door of uncharted territory.
