Manchester City put Newcastle United to the sword
Manchester City and Manchester United both played their games simultaneously, so City had no way of knowing how the table was shaping up while their own match was in progress. All they could do was fight their best out on the pitch and hope for the best
at Old Trafford, best for City being a defeat for United at the hands of Sunderland.
United though did in fact defeat Sunderland at home thanks to two goals by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dimitar-Berbatov-c11254, albeit the second one being highly fortuitous. But not nearly as fortuitous as Carlos Tevez’s goal at St. James Park. So with Manchester United winning, Manchester
City had to win their game to keep in touch up at the top of the table in the Premier League.
Roberto Mancini decided to play Carlos Tevez as the lone striker up front with David Silva, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kolo-c21278 Toure saw red in his last game against Everton and was thus suspended for this game. So,
he was replaced by the out of favour http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joe-Hart-c18699 continued in goal.
City’s last game was at The City Of Manchester Stadium against Everton, where they squandered the chance to climb to the top of the table by slumping to a 2-1 defeat. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mancini-c23323 needed his men to bounce back from that set back and that was what the players
looked to do. Alan Pardew was himself hoping to continue his fine start as Newcastle manager after his first game in charge saw the 3-1 demolition of Roy Hodgson’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809, but his side were put on the back foot when in the second minute, Tim Krul’s tame
pass out to Joey Barton was intercepted by Carlos Tevez. Krul was cruelly made to pay for his mistake as Tevez controlled the ball and found http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gareth-Barry-c14423 unmarked in the box, Barry collected the pass and coolly finished passed the young Newcastle goalkeeper
to give the Citizens an early lead.
And three minutes later, it was 2-0 to City. Tevez passed the ball to Milner on the right and ran into the box to meet Milner’s low cross. Tevez’s left foot connected, as he snuck up between Coloccini and Steven Taylor, and drilled the ball past Tim Krul
and into the top far corner of the net. Andy Carroll did give Newcastle United some hope as he headed in a Joey Barton corner in the 72nd minute, but Tevez ended the matter with a second goal in the 81st minute. This goal saw Carlos Tevez’s
shot take a double deflection before rifling past the helpless Tim Krul. It was all over for Newcastle, and harshly at a time when it seemed they might just get an equalizer.
So, Manchester City managed to keep pace with United this weekend, and now are just 2 points behind the league leaders. However, the Citizens have played two more games compared to the Red Devils, and if United win their games in hand then that two point
gap could turn into an 8 point one. So, Mancini knows he cannot afford to drop anymore points, not with United in such impressive form, if he does then he can surely kiss the Barclays Premier League Trophy goodbye.
