Manchester City rename Eastlands to ‘Etihad Stadium’ – Premier League Update
Manchester City have gone on to officially change the name of the Eastlands to Etihad Stadium. The team has gone on to strike a deal, which is reportedly worth a massive hundred and fifty million pounds for the name change. The payment for the naming of
stadium will be distributed over the course of the next ten years, but is bound to help City boost their revenues tremendously.
Etihad, are the club’s prime sponsors and seem to have taken their sponsorship to a whole new level with the renaming of the club. At the moment, the City jerseys boast the sponsor’s name on the chest of every player and with this latest development, it
seems like Etihad is going to be only word that is going to be talked about in Manchester.
However, the renaming of the club wasn’t all that happened at the Etihad Stadium. At the news conference, the club went on to unveil their new Airbus A-330, which was sky-blue and carried their name and badge on its sides.
Etihad also took this opportunity to introduce a new flight schedule between Manchester and Abu Dhabi. Starting on August 1st, there will be two flights on a daily basis between the two cities.
City seem to have participated in this name change for one reason only. The team is already looking to make a number of singings and with FIFA’s fair play policy, which states that team’s can’t purchase players if they suffer massive losses, seems to have
affected the team.
This way, the team is guaranteed a constant inflow of revenue and as a result, they can easily go forth and make all the transfers they want.
What’s interesting here, is the fact that Etihad can be translated to meaning, Union or United. So technically Manchester City might have just named their stadium, United stadium. It is anybody’s guess how Manchester United are going to respond to this act,
but as it stands, what’s done is done.
