Manchester City secure three crucial points against Newcastle
Manchester City traveled from North West to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/North-East-c40078 on Boxing Day, to play against Newcastle at St James stadium. It was anniversary day for Roberto Mancini as a manager for Manchester City, who took the reign of the club 12 months back. Alan Pardew faced
his first true challenge as Manchester City played with their full strength. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nigel-de-Jong-c27882 returned to the side and was
continuously booed by the football fanatic Geordies. For Newcastle, veteran http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sol-Campbell-c33757 was dropped out from a big clash.
It was the first Boxing Day home match for Newcastle for the last nine years and it didn’t start well for them. On a cold and freezing night, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gareth-Barry-c14423 scored in the second minute of the game. Tim Krul could not clear the ball convincingly and it landed
like a Christmas present to Carlos Tavez. Tavez could have taken a shot however; he opted to pass it to Barry who completed the task as he put the ball in the net. The ball went through the legs of the keeper, compounding miseries for him.
Soon after this Tavez earned the ball in the midfield, he passed to Milner on the right flank. Tavez kept on running into the box and Milner’s cross, found the legs of Tavez, who was perfectly placed to score. The ball was played by Milner and it was slaughtered
in the net by Tavez, who celebrated his goal in a typical “kidco” style. Manchester City scored two goals in the five minutes that stunned the fanatic crowd.
Newcastle, after this twin debacle gathered their nerves and started to attack. The winger on the right flank took a cross and Andy Carroll was in perfect position for the header. However, all he managed to do was to hit the ball in the chest of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joe-Hart-c18699.
He should have scored with this chance but calm Hart caught the ball and pouched it in his arms. On the other hand, Tavez kept attacking but was unlucky not to find the third goal.
In the start of the second half captain Nolan took his chance to score but Hart was between his aim and the goal. The shot was pretty tame that landed into the safe hands of the keeper. Newcastle kept on attacking and in these attacks they earned a free
kick. The free kick was headed out by the defender and that resulted in a corner for Newcastle. The team in black and white stripes took the corner and found Carroll perfectly positioned in the box and he scored with his header. It was a standard and routine
goal for him, in the 72nd minute of the game. That was his sixth goal in the last eight games he has played.
Newcastle continued their attacks with Kevin Nolan and Carroll upfront and Manchester City looked in disarray. Momentum was with the men with zebra stripes and tried hard to score a goal on home ground. In an open chance, the captain spilled it. He put the
ball wide, when he was standing at hand shaking distance from the goal. It was the easiest of chances he would have asked for. He stood there in utter shock after the costly miss. With so many chances not taken it was the turn of Manchester City to attack.
The attack was lead by Tavez and near the goal he took a shot that was double deflected of the defenders before it passed the goal line. Second goal for Tavez and third for Manchester city, earned them well fought three points.
It was certainly a special occasion for Roberto http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mancini-c23323 and he said,
“I like Boxing Day. Last year, we won; this year, we won. I am happy with this first year, but it is my opinion that we need to improve again, we need to work. Only if we do that can we arrive at the top and win something at the end of the season.”
He labeled his first year at Eastlands as an “incredible experience.”
