Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez ruled out due to hamstring injury – EPL news
Manchester City have been dealt a huge blow as their skipper and prolific striker, Carlos Tevez has been ruled out for three to four weeks with a hamstring injury.
This means that he will miss the FA Cup semi-final against his former employers, Manchester United on Saturday, 16 April, 2011.
Tevez sustained the injury in the 15th minute of the 3-0 defeat against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 at Anfield on 11 April, 2011.
Club manager Roberto Mancini confirmed the injury and said, “Tevez is not available for Saturday. I think he will recover in three or four weeks. It is a big problem but we can't take any risks. After this game we have another six, so hopefully we have him
for the last two or three matches. Every player knows this is an important moment for the club.”
Tevez’s absence will dent City’s challenge for the FA Cup, as the striker is in splendid form in the ongoing 2010-11 season. He has scored 22 goals in 38 appearances for the Citizens and has been the inspiration behind their success.
Mancini revealed that he was still unsure over the replacement for Tevez but http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mario-Balotelli-c23937 or Edin Dzeko were the likely candidates for the role.
“I have not decided the first XI, we have another 48 hours. Mario, or Edin, or both players - they both have an important chance. I trust my players,” said Mancini.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan manager is still confident of beating Manchester United and believes that he has a good bunch of players at his disposal who can do the job for him.
City have not won any major silverware for over three decades and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mancini-c23323 believes that this is the right time to end the drought.
He added, “We should be happy because for this club it's been a long time since we made the semi-finals. We have a good chance.”
City’s Premier League form has been a cause of concern of late and despite sitting on the fourth spot in the League table, they are at risk of losing their UEFA Champions League place for the next season.
