Manchester City tell strikers to "remain professional"
English Premier League outfit Manchester City have told Emmanuel Adebayor and Róbson de Souza (‘Robinho’) to "remain professional" in the face of speculation linking them with moves away from the club.
The warning came from the mega-rich club’s football administrator Brian Marwood, who added that "They have a contract and they have certain obligations."
Both strikers have been strongly tipped for moves to other clubs before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
'Nothing has developed'
Robinho, 26, revealed that he is looking to leave City with Marwood revealing that several clubs have shown interest in the Brazil international, but "nothing has developed". The player turned down a switch to Turkish outfit Fenerbahce earlier this week having stated that he would prefer a move to Serie A or La Liga.
However, if Robinho is still at Eastlands after the transfer deadline date of August 31 he will be a part of manager Roberto Mancini’s 25-man squad for the EPL campaign, claimed Marwood — despite the striker not having featured at all yet this season.
Quit warning
Meanwhile, Adebayor warned that he might quit City if he does not play regularly this season. He faces strong competition for a starting place in the form of club captain Carlos Tevez, Robinho, new arrival Mario Balotelli and Jo, who was believed to be out of favour but made his first start in 19 months against Timisoara in the UEFA Europa League play-off clash last night.
The 26-year-old Togolese striker started City’s first two EPL games on the bench, but started the match in Romania last night. He told Talksport that "If you're in a team and you're not playing and there is a team that comes in for me, then I will definitely be on my way out."
Adebayor, who joined City in a £25m switch from Arsenal last summer, scored 14 goals in 31 matches for City last season.
