Manchester City to get James Milner while Sol Campbell signs

Manchester City will make a final offer of £24million for James Milner after Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill revealed yesterday he thinks his player wants to leave.

However, Milner has demanded talks with O’Neill and is unhappy with what his manager has said.

Manchester City have been trying to sign Milner all summer, but Aston Villa have turned down several bids for the England midfielder already, while Luke Young could be on his way out of Villa Park, with Fulham looking to land the full-back after he failed to turn up to a pre-season training camp in Ireland.

Javier Mascherano is nearing a move to Inter Milan to team up with former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez. The captain of Argentina has desires on leaving Anfield, and wants to play under Benitez once again.

Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidić will be offered a contract extension and a pay rise to stop him from leaving Old Trafford. Real Madrid are after the Serbian, and his future was put in doubt when Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson stated he is unsure whether he will stay or not.

Sol Campbell will sign a new deal with Arsenal and turn down offers from Newcastle, Celtic and Sunderland. Campbell was one of Arsenal better players towards the end of last season, and Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger wanted the veteran centre-back to stay at the Emirates.

West Ham have dropped their asking price for Carlton Cole to £12million. Cole has been the subject of major interest from other clubs, but the lower asking price could prompt a move, with the sale of Cole possibly making way for the signing of Loïc Rémy. Also, West Ham have invited Algeria goalkeeper Rais M’Bolhi to join them in pre-season training.

Marseille are going to offer £8million for Wigan player Charles N’Zogbia. The French champions could land N’Zogbia, who is also wanted by Birmingham City. Meanwhile, Blackburn’s attempts to sign James Beattie have been blocked by Stoke. Also, Middlesbrough captain Gary O’Neill says he is happy to stay at the club, despite interest from Stoke and Blackburn.

Schalke are confident of signing Real Madrid striker Raúl, even though there is interest from Tottenham Hotspur. Raúl is set to depart the Bernabéu, while Celtic are close to signing Biram Kayal for £1.2million from Maccabi Haifa.
