Manchester City v Sunderland – Second half review: English Premier League - Part 1
Sunderland kicked off the second half at Eastlands stadium against Manchester City with a half time substitution. Phillip Bardsley was replaced by Ahmed El-Mohamady on the left side of Sunderland’s defence. Bardsley was at fault for City’s second goal of
the night, as he gave away a weak penalty due to his barge on Carlos Tevez inside the Sunderland penalty area.
City came into the second half of the match with no changes to their lineup as they had a two-goal advantage from the first 45 minutes. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Adam-Johnson-c3537 netted their first goal of the match after collecting a pass from Yaya Toure, whereas Carlos Tevez scored
the second one through a penalty kick. The second half got under way with a bad tackle from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Asamoah-Gyan-c6791 on Yaya Toure. Gyan stepped on Toure’s foot with a clumsy tackle but luckily enough for Sunderland, referee Howard Webb decided to keep his cards in his
pocket as he awarded City their first free kick of the second half.
In the 52nd minute, Sunderland’s young midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stéphane-c34105 Sessegnon combined near the Manchester City penalty area. After prodding his way past two City players, Sessegnon played the ball out-wide to Henderson
whose follow-up cross was a particularly disappointing one, as the ball went out of play for a Manchester City goal kick.
In the 54th minute, it looked as if City were clean through for their third goal of the match as David Silva played in Adam Johnson over the top. Johnson’s first time volley was acrobatically saved by Simon Mignolet inside the Sunderland goal,
but the linesman on the far side raised his flag to signal Johnson’s off-side position as the referee blew for a Sunderland free kick.
City almost added to their lead in the 55th minute as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mario-Balotelli-c23937 surged into the Sunderland penalty area with the ball. The ex-Inter Milan striker unleashed a powerfully hit shot towards Mignolet’s goal, but the Belgian shot-stopper palmed
the ball away to keep the score line at 2-0. In the 59th minute of the match, Jordan Henderson made way for Bolo Zenden as Sunderland made their second substitution of the match. Henderson found it hard to compete against Yaya Toure in the center
of the park for Sunderland throughout the first half and mid-way through the second half as well.
