Manchester City v Sunderland – Second half review: English Premier League - Part 2
After substituting http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jordan-Henderson-c19102 for Bolo Zenden, Sunderland found much more time and space in the midfield, whereas Manchester City sat back and adopted a counter attacking approach to the match. The Black Cats had a large amount possession in the second
half, but their lack of invention and creativity in the midfield region made it easy for Manchester City’s defence.
In the 63rd minute, things went from bad to worse for Sunderland as City destroyed their opponents on the counter attack. Carlos Tevez led the charge as he played in Yaya Toure, but the Ivorian midfielders shot was blocked by Simon Mignolet. Unfortunately,
for Sunderland, David Silva was on hand to tap the ball in on the rebound as the score line reached 3-0 at the City of Manchester stadium. It was a fantastic counter attack by Manchester City who made Sunderland pay for their lack of pace in the midfield region,
as well as defence.
In the 65th minute, Manchester City almost got their fourth goal of the match. It was Yaya Toure once again who was involved in the build-up play for the Citizens. Toure played in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Adam-Johnson-c3537 whose eventual shot on Sunderland’s goal was expertly
blocked by Simon Mignolet. The Belgian goalkeeper palmed the ball away for a Manchester City corner kick. However, before the corner kick was taken, Roberto http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Patrick-Vieira-c29316 replaced Johnson in the midfield
department.
The Frenchman almost scored with his first touch of the match as City’s ensuing corner kick was headed accurately by Vieira but Mignolet dove to his right to push the ball away. Unluckily, Kolarov gathered the loose ball, and played in Viera once more whose
finish this time around nestled in the back of the net, as Manchester City made it four goals to nil at their own home turf. Manchester City soon added to their four goal lead thanks to a horrendous back pass from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lee-Cattermole-c21868.
The Englishman played a careless back pass towards his goal keeper that was intercepted by Yaya Toure. Toure then completed the rout by slipping the ball past the on-rushing Sunderland goal keeper Simon Mignolet to humiliate the visitors even further. City
had another chance later on in the match to get their sixth goal of the encounter, but this time Mignolet denied http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mario-Balotelli-c23937 his first goal of the match after the Italian striker had produced an amazingly curled free kick from just outside the Sunderland
penalty area.
Eventually, the match came to an end with the score line at 5-0. City’s first two goals came through Adam Johnson and Carlos Tevez. David Silva netted the third one, whilst Vieira and Toure added the fourth and fifth to give Roberto Mancini’s men all three
points at the City of Manchester stadium.
