Manchester City versus Manchester United – Community Shield: First half review (Part 2)
After dominating the first few exchanges of their community shield encounter against Manchester City, Manchester United showcased their diverse offensive strength in the 7th minute when their young striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Welbeck
spun Joleon Lescott inside the Manchester City half of the field. The English defender was left standing in Welbeck’s wake but he recovered in time to foul the young forward and in doing so he was penalized by the referee who awarded a free kick to Manchester
United.
In the 10th minute, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Carrick-c25282 after the Spanish midfielder had
skipped past http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Racing-c40298 clean through on the Manchester City goal with a superb long ball but the Brazilian midfielder’s pass had too much pace on it and in the end Rooney
failed to control it correctly as the ball went out of play for a goal kick.
In the 17th minute, Luis Nani found himself in some space down the right hand side after being released by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nani-c27299 decided to rush to the by-line and then crossed the ball towards Rooney but the pass missed
its intended target by a few feet as Manchester United’s move broke down inside the City penalty area. In the 20th minute both Edin Dzeko and Anderson went into the referee’s book after both of them clashed off the ball near the half way line. Shortly
after Richards was shown a yellow card by the referee for a rash challenge on Ashley Young.
Rooney stepped up to take the ensuing set piece but his shot drifted wide of the mark by a few inches as the score line remained at nil all in London at the Wembley stadium. In the 28th minute, City had a wonderful chance
to score with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-de-Gea-c10463 came out and made himself big inside the United penalty area which forced Milner to skew his shot wide.

of the Red Devils’ goal. However this wasn’t the end of goal scoring action in the first half, as right before the half time whistle, City added another goal to their advantage. This time it was Edin Dzeko who drove his shot home from 30 yards out with De
Gea failing to react in time to tip the ball away. It was a spectacular effort by the Bosnian forward which gave City a two goal lead over their local rivals heading into the half time break.
