Manchester City vs. Chelsea- match preview
Manchester City versus Chelsea would be a battle between 2 of the richest clubs in England. Chelsea, back in 2004 when it was bought by the Russian billionaire, Roman Abrahimovic threw around cash and brought in some of the best players from the world. Not
only players but Abrahimovic replaced Claudio Raneri and brought in the “Special one” Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese coach led them to back to back Premier League trophies and hence proved that money can buy success. It had been one of the oldest debates in football, and in modern times has really been a pivotal concern. Manchester City was bought by Abu
Dhabi based billionaire business group before last season. In the last 2 transfer windows they have left Chelsea behind in terms of spending. Just this summer Manchester City spent a whopping 130 million pounds and brought in some of the best players from
England and Europe.
City has wanted to break into the top 4 of English premier league and become one of the contenders of Premier League crown. Last season their aim was to end 4th but they missed out to Tottenham, hence the huge spending in summer took place.
Now many believe they are strong contenders for not only 4th place but can actually challenge for the title. A win against Chelsea would go a long way towards reassuring those claims made by the blues.
Both teams would be coming off a disappointing midweek performance in Carling Cup. Chelsea were knocked off the Carling cup by Newcastle, in a enthralling encounter, by 4-3 at Stamford bridge.
While Manchester City were sent packing by West Brom. So the dream of an unprecedented quadruple is out of the question for Chelsea. Manchester City boss, Roberto Mancini, did not field his best 11 in the cup tie and eventually did pay a heavy price for
it. The good news for Mancini is that his star players like Carlos Tevez and James Milner will be fit to take on Chelsea, so City may actually be able to match the blues in terms of a start studded line up.
Once again, Chelsea boss, Carlo Ancelotti, would have to forget about the Carlin cup disappointment against Newcastle and gear his team up for the defence of their League title.
As far as form is concerned, in the league no one comes close to Chelsea. They have been scoring goals for fun this season, and have already scored 23 goals in just 5 games. The best start by any team in Premier league history.
City has also had a decent start to the season. The blue side of Manchester is currently 4th in the league with 8 points.
Manchester City would have a number of key players out with injury, Jolean Lescot the defender signed last season from Everton, is out with a hamstring problem. The much hyped Italian striker Mario Balotelli is also out with a side strain. Togo striker Emmanuel
Adebayor, Jerome Boateng and Aleksandar Kolarov are still doubtful.
Chelsea also have their own injury woes, talismanic midfielder, Frank Lampard, has still not recovered even after being rested for the midweek Carling Cup tie, while Ivory Coast striker, Saloman Kalou, Israel midfielder, Yossi Benayoun and Jose Boringwa
are all sure to miss out.
The match will also be a battle between 2 managers who have had some fierce Derbies in Italy. Carlo Ancelotti the Chelsea boss was in charge of AC Milan, while Roberto Mancini was the manager of Inter Milan. Ancelotti did have a better record over Mancini
in Italy but the City manager would be keen to set the record straight in English Premier League.
