Manchester City headed into this Europa league encounter against Lech Poznan, with nothing but a victory on their mind. The richest club on the planet employed their first team squad against the Ukrainian side, with only Argentine
Carlos Tevez not in the lineup. Silva and Adam Johnson took the wings with Adebayor as the spearhead. De Jong, Vieira and Wright-Phillips were in the midfield as things got underway at the City of Manchester Stadium.
The hosts found the first goal of the match early on, thanks to beautiful team play by Mancini’s men. A quick free-kick was taken from Adam Johnson to Patrick Vieira, who then passed it to Adebayor. The Togolese striker then turned
on the edge of the box before stroking the ball into the corner of the net. It was a remarkable finish by the former Arsenal man, as he marked his 15th goal for the club, his first in nearly 5 months. The side deserved the early lead as they dominated
possession and seemed almost too talented for the visitors. Adebayor got his second in the 25th minute, as Silva found the player in the box. Silva’s cross was well received by Adebayor, who then headed a cool effort in the back of the net. It was
2-0 to a deserving home side and they looked to put the icing on the cake. In form winger Adam Johnson got close to scoring his first on the night, but was denied by the woodwork. The opponents have so far not managed a single shot on goal and it will take
a lot to trouble the quality of Joe Hart.
Manchester City created tremendous opportunities in the first half and a score line of 2-0 doesn’t reflect the quality of the side. There could have been more than that, but more can be expected in the 2nd half. With
so much quality players employed in the outfit, it is actually a joy to watch such a composed game and manager Roberto Mancini has to be credited for transforming the low lying club into one of the most dangerous clubs in Europe.
