Manchester City were set up not to lose - Arsene Wenger
Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has pointed out Roberto Mancini’s defensive tactics after Manchester City held Arsenal to a goalless draw at Emirates Stadium last night.
After Wednesday’s draw, Arsenal are currently placed third in the Barclays Premier League and are only two points behind Manchester City, although the Gunners have played a less game. Moreover, the draw against Manchester City put Arsenal four points behind
league leaders Manchester United while the Red Devils still have a game in hand.
Speaking to the media after the match, Arsene Wenger claimed the result suited Roberto Mancini’s men and insisted Manchester City were set up to be defensive. The Frenchman explained that Manchester City were set up not to lose, as the visitors tried to
gain more time by going down very easily. Arsenal manager added that he thinks Manchester City are happy with a nil-nil draw.
Arsene Wenger also praised Manchester City’s defensive performance and said that Roberto Mancini’s men deserve credit for defending extraordinarily. He also stated: “Overall Manchester City were set up not to lose.”

Arsenal played well for major part of the game with more attacking approach, however, their best attack was cancelled out by the best defence of the Barclays Premier League. Moreover, the Gunners were unfortunate not to score last night as they were denied
twice by the woodworks and Arsenal manager acknowledged that his team had chances to win against Manchester City.
Arsene Wenger said: “We created enough chances, but it was this kind of game. We had more chances than you normally have, sometimes there was hesitation, sometimes there was bad luck but overall we played the game we wanted to play.”
However, the French manager of Arsenal claimed that he was happy that his team defended well and managed to keep a clean sheet. It was Arsenal’s second clean sheet in a row and the Gunners’ defenders played extremely well as they did not let Manchester City
to register even a single shot on goal.
Overall, Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, hailed his team’s performance and said: “I would like to say first the performance was very positive, encouraging, the team is on a strong run, and there is a fantastic spirit, fantastic quality. I think there are
more positives than negatives tonight; you have seen tonight that everyone can lose everywhere.”
