Manchester City winger, Shaun Wright-Phillips plans to end career at Eastlands
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Shaun-Wright-Phillips-c33277, the 29-year-old England winger, revealed he wanted to remain with Manchester City for the remainder of his career. Phillips was linked with a move away from the Eastlands in the summer after having lost his place in the first team.
However, the England International is determined to stay with Manchester City, and fight for his place in Roberto Mancini’s squad.
Wright-Phillips made his debut in professional football with Manchester City in 1998, scoring 26 goals in 153 appearances. He was doing well with City, but due to the club’s escalating financial difficulties, Phillips was sold off to Chelsea for a fee of
£21 million. Apart from a few decent performances for the Blues, Wright-Phillips had a quiet time at Stamford Bridge, failing to secure a place in the first team.
In his three seasons at the club, from 2005 to 2008, Wright-Phillips only made 82 appearances and scored 4 goals. He failed to establish himself under two different managers, Jose Mourinho and Avram Grant. It was when Luiz Felipe Scolari took over that Wright-Philips
was finally allowed to leave the club, and it came as no surprise when he ended up back at Manchester City.
In 2008, the England International arrived at Manchester City for an estimated fee of £8.5million and returned to his old form, managing to score 8 goals in his first season back at the Eastlands. While the subsequent season started well, with Phillips setting
up and scoring goals, he failed to remain consistent and soon found himself on the bench with youngster, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Adam-Johnson-c3537 replacing him.
Frustrated with the lack of first team football, Wright-Phillips decided on a Manchester City exit and handed in a transfer request. He was linked with a move to Fulham and Bolton Wanderers but now seems to have changed his mind. He said while speaking to
reporters, “It feels like I am part of the furniture here. I would love to retire a City player and I have my fingers crossed it is something that can still happen.”
Manchester City is currently at third place in the English Premier League table, just a single point ahead of defending champions, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 in the English Premier League and then face rivals Manchester United in the FA
Cup semi final. Having been eliminated from other competitions, this is their one chance at silverware.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 winger was hopeful of helping his side to a trophy this season, he continued, “I want to fulfill a lifelong dream and help win a trophy for our fans. I wouldn't just want to beat United and then lose in the final - we need to get to the final
and win it. If I could play even a small part of making that happen, I would be a happy man.”
