Manchester City’s Edin Dzeko thankful for fan support during goal drought
Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko has expressed his gratitude towards the fans for the support they have given him since he joined the club in January 2011.
The Bosnian claims that the supporters kept faith in him despite the fact that he had failed to score in ten Premier League encounters prior to Monday’s match against Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385.
Edin Dzeko’s second half strike against Blackburn at Ewood Park proved to be the winner, as Manchester City earned three crucial points in the race for fourth place in the Premier League. It was the Bosnian’s first goal in the competition in ten attempts,
and he feels like a huge weight has now been lifted off his shoulders.
Speaking on the matter, Dzeko said, “I want to thank the fans for giving me big support. Even though I wasn't scoring the fans were behind me. We have five more league games to play (in the league) and we have to win the next one (against West Ham) as it
is at home.”
Both Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are aiming for that final Champions League spot. The Spurs overcame City in the previous season to clinch a place in the tournament; however, it looks as if the Sky Blues will be competing in next season’s Champions
League.
Manchester City are currently in fourth place, one point ahead of fifth placed Tottenham. Crucially though, the Spurs have played a game more, leaving them with a huge mountain to climb in their remaining four matches of the campaign.
Dzeko has set his sights on a possible third place finish, with Arsenal running low on steam in the run-in. The striker said, “Can we catch Arsenal? It is very difficult to say as they have five points more than us. Tottenham are four points behind us but
every game is difficult and anything can happen.”
Manchester City will face their next test in the Premier League against West Ham United in a few days time. However, the Sky Blues have to cope up with the added distraction of an upcoming FA Cup final.
