Manchester City defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joleon-Lescott-c18941 believes Manchester United are a bigger threat to City, when compared to Tottenham.
City are currently on top of the Premier League table, with three points separating them from Manchester United and five separating them from Tottenham Hotspur.
Despite Tottenham physically being in reach of City, Lescott believes the team is not a real threat to City’s title hopes and that they are going to fall out sooner rather than later.
At the same time, Lescott believes United shouldn’t be underestimated, keeping in mind that the team has won the Premier League nineteen times. Despite United having a number of setbacks this time around, the team is still more than capable of bouncing back and pushing for the title.
Lescott, while talking about the game against Tottenham and its implications is quoted to have said: "Beating Spurs would open up a big gap between us and them.”
The player then went on to highlight that Tottenham just aren’t as big a threat as people are making them to be, as he went on to add: "No disrespect to Spurs but we see Man United as our main rivals because they're second in the league.”
The defender also believes that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 could also easily push for the title, but the point difference between them and City might be a little too big at this point in the season.
"I wouldn't rule out Chelsea and Arsenal because of the experience they have in their squads but, on paper and points wise, you'd probably say it is between ourselves, United and Spurs.”
Lescott and City are set to take on Tottenham this coming weekend. If the team ends up winning, they would be eight points clear from the London-based club. At the same time, Tottenham have to play the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal, which are guaranteed to make the team drop more points.
All in all, Tottenham are more likely to focus their efforts on finishing in the top four, as opposed to pushing for the title, since it’s a little unrealistic for them to think otherwise.
