Manchester City’s Nigel de Jong relieved to break his scoring duck: Premier League news

Manchester City midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nigel-de-Jong-c27882 has expressed his delight at finally breaking his scoring duck for the Sky Blues. The Dutchman scored the opening goal in the match against West Ham United at the City of Manchester Stadium on Sunday.
De Jong’s 10th minute strike sent City on their way to three vital points in the race for the final UEFA Champions League spot. West Ham had failed to deal with a corner, and the ball found its way to De Jong on the edge of the box. The midfielder took his chance superbly, striking the ball past a crowded penalty area and into the bottom right corner of the West Ham net.
The goal was the Dutchman’s first for Manchester City since he joined the club back in 2009. He admitted that the goal came at exactly the right time, as he was beginning to worry about whether he would ever be able to score for the Sky Blues.
Speaking after the match, De Jong expressed his relief at finally ending his goal drought. He said, “The ball bounced off one of the West Ham players and came down to the edge of the box. I was standing there so I saw the opportunity to shoot and this time finally it went into the net."
He midfielder added, "The relief was there. The boys had been asking me when I was going to score my first goal and saying I had lost my touch, and all sorts of thoughts had been getting into my head. So it is nice to score a goal to make sure your side is leading 1-0. It was a personal victory as well."
Manchester City went on to win the match 2-1. The result all but ensures that City will clinch fourth place in the Premier League and book their spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League competition.
The Sky Blues are in fourth place with 62 points. Meanwhile, closest rivals Tottenham Hotspur and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 are almost surely out of the running, as they are both seven points behind City.
