Manchester City’s Nigel de Jong targeting third place finish in the Barclays Premier League
Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong has set his sights on overtaking third paced Arsenal by the end of the 2010-11 Barclays Premier League season. The Dutchman believes that a top three finish is within his side’s reach, provided they keep their focus
in the run-in.
The Sky Blues have all but ensured their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League with their current position. City are currently in fourth place, a point above rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who have played a game more than them. However, Nigel de Jong is
not content with his side’s current League standing. He believes that Manchester City are capable of finishing ahead of Arsenal, especially since they are just five points behind the Gunners, with a game in hand.
If City manage to overtake Arsenal in the race for third place by the end of the campaign, it would be club’s highest finish in the Premier League since 1977. It is a feat the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nigel-de-Jong-c27882 would be happy to achieve. However, he has warned his team-mates
not to dwell too much on that, and instead focus on their upcoming games.
Speaking on the situation, the Dutchman said, “If we keep our focus then of course we can challenge for third place but all we can do is keep winning and see what happens. We are in the top four and that is where we want to stay and the way to do that is
to not think about the future only the next match."
De Jong was named the man of the match for his performance against Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 at Ewood Park; a display that helped his side walk away with all three points. However, the midfielder claims that his individual display does not matter as long as the club
gets a positive result.

He said, “This is a collective effort. Last weekend was a good one for Manchester City and now our job as a team is to make sure that next weekend is a good one too.”
Manchester City will face the biggest threat to their Champions League ambitions when they take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on 10th May at the City of Manchester Stadium.
