Manchester City's homesick skipper, Carlos Tevez, given Leave
Manchester City manager, Roberto Mancini, has given permission to his talismanic skipper Carlos to return to Argentina for a few days. Moreover, Carlos Tevez is also expected to miss next month’s potentially explosive derby match due to injury.
The Argentinean striker, who left the Red Devils for Manchester City in an acrimonious transfer in last season, is facing at least two weeks on the sidelines after scans highlighted unexpected damage to the thigh injury sustained last weekend.
It was initially expected that Carlos Tevez would only miss Manchester City’s next away clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers. But the scans highlighted that it would take longer than expected for Manchester City striker to come back in action, he may not
be available for the next three to four matches for Roberto Mancini.
The former Manchester United striker is Manchester City’s top scorer this season with seven goals to his name out of nine appearances. Carlos Tevez scored the decisive goal against Chelsea two weeks ago and helped his team earn all three points. Tevez’s
absence against Manchester United in next week’s Manchester derby match will be a huge blow to City’s hopes of securing a crucial victory against their fierce rivals Manchester United.
The Manchester United skipper scored thrice against his former club last season and he was embroiled in a war of words with the Red Devils skipper Neville, who he labelled him a ‘moron’ and a ‘boot-l****r’. Tevez’s harsh comments came after Neville said
that Sir Alex was right not to meet the financial terms required to keep Tevez at Manchester United
However, sources close to the Argentinean striker have confirmed that the player is facing a battle to be fit for the crucial derby match — a game which is likely to see the return of Wayne Rooney, whose decision to move to the East lands last week preceded
his decision to sign a new five-year contact at Old Trafford.
Moreover, with Tevez appearing in all nine league matches, plus three European games, Roberto Mancini has admitted that his captain’s workload has become a cause for concern for him.
Prior to Tevez’s setback, Manchester City boss had been keen to rest, in order to avoid the risk of injury. Now it is understood that Mancini has agreed to a period of rest to prevent further problems.
With another Manchester City striker, Santa Cruz, revealing on Tuesday that his good friend and skipper, Carlos Tevez, is battling against homesickness and a sense of detachment from his family in Argentina, the Citizens boss has granted the player a brief
period of compassionate leave before returning back for treatment.
Carlos Tevez has consistently spoken of his desire to return to his former club before the end of his career, but with three-and-a-half years remaining on his current contract, Citizens are confident that their talismanic skipper will remain part of their
squad for the foreseeable future.
The Argentinean striker is expected to arrive home later today, with Manchester making it clear that he is due back at their training ground to begin his rehabilitation next week.
