Manchester City's striker dilemma with Santa Cruz considering transfer
Media reports claim that out of favour Manchester City forward Roque Santa Cruz is being linked with a move back to the German Bundesliga.
It is rumoured that the 29-year-old striker is linked with a couple of German clubs, and negotiations over a potential transfer have already begun. Pundits are predicting that if all goes according to plan, Santa Cruz could be leaving as early as the January
transfer window.
The Paraguayan international is presently unhappy with his role at Manchester City, where he is being used as a mere benchwarmer. Santa Cruz started his career at Olimpia, where his talents were recognised by German footballing giants Bayern Munich.
From Munich the player made a switch to the Premier League, joining Blackburn Rovers before moving to Manchester City in 2009. After a little over a season at Eastlands the player has become frustrated by his lack of first team opportunities.
Hence he has finally decided that it is time for him to move on as he believes he is in the twilight of his career. The German league seems to be the perfect place to reignite the later part of his career.
After all Santa Cruz spent eight seasons with Bayern Munich in which he made 150 appearances, scoring 31 goals. Santa Cruz’s career at Ewood Park was also impressive, as the striker scored 23 goals in 57 games.
However at Manchester City he seems to have become surplus to requirements. The Abu Dhabi group have splashed out more than 200m Pounds since taking over the club in 2008, which has created a lot of competition for squad places, and Santa Cruz has not been
the only one complaining.
City manager Roberto Mancini has admitted that he has a tough time choosing players for the final eleven, therefore there is a good chance that the club will offload some of its players.
In a recent press release Santa Cruz stated, “Definitely, I am considering my future and I understand people in Germany may believe I am currently injured. This is delusion.”
Indeed there were reports earlier that the player was not playing because he had sustained an injury, Cruz however contradicted those claims by stating, “I have been fully fit since the World Cup tournament. I have no trouble, I am feeling great, training
every day and physically I am stronger than I was before.”
Santa Cruz went on to express his desire to play in the Bundesliga. He compared the German League to the English Premier League by saying that the Bundesliga was competitive and had talented clubs. He added that the atmosphere is amazing and so are the stadiums.
Santa Cruz added that he had always felt comfortable and at home whenever he played in Germany. The striker said that he had had great success in Germany and would love to move back.
