Question:

Manchester Congestion Charge?

is this just a way of Taxing the poor off the roads to make it nicer for the rich? Or will it really help the environment? Most of all will you feel safe on public transport? Especially the Tram at night?

I think we should oppose it at all cost.

  1. Yes, lets tax the poor out of existence, then they would not be a problem.

Seriously if you are poor, you wont have a car and improved public transport would be a benefit. If it was cheap enough that is!

  2. Sounds about right.. nothing more crooked than a Local Councellor.. as dodgy as the day is long. It's got the point where the Stealth tax isn't even stealthy anymore...

  3. "Councillors would not be exempt from the congestion charge - that would be plain wrong. But when they are coming to meetings, in the interest of democracy, they have to be able to park here free."

Pot, kettle and black springs to mind.

  4. You've got my blood boiling now. I'm so disgusted I'm stuck for words. How can councilors, at a time when fuel prices are going through the roof, the Government planning to increase road tax on older cars and increase fuel duty even consider a PR disaster like this, do they really think they are the elite? They will want their own car lanes on city streets next like the Polit Bauro did in the old days of Soviet Russia. Its time the Motorist said enough is enough.

Sorry you've got me going now. Before any congestion charges are brought in they should get the transport sorted out, that means you should be able to get a bus, tram or train from near your home to get you from A to B quickly and comfortably. It should be non profit making and therefore very cheap if not free. This would take massive investment, so they can start with the money they intend to spend on their own private car park.

Sorry about the rant, couldn't help myself.
