Manchester Ctiy beat Blackpool 3-2
Manchester City continued to impress as they grinded out a 3-2 win against a resilient Blackpool side on Sunday in the English Premier League.
It was City Captain, Carlos Tevez, who maintained his excellent scoring run this season and led from the front to keep his team 2nd in the table.
The double from the Argentine in the 2nd half earned his team a win, and the manager was very pleased with the result. He said that it proved that his team could grind out results when needed.
Tevez, who left Manchester United for Manchester City, has been on a hot streak since coming to City. He has now scored 28 goals in last 31 games for the club going back to last season.
Tevez is now seen as a saviour and a superstar at the City of Manchester, the Argentine has managed to establish himself quickly at his new club, which is not normally easy for a player coming from a bitter rival team.
One of the biggest summer signings, David Silva, also impressed and got his name on the score sheet. While for Blackpool it was Marlon Harewood and Gary Taylor-Fletcher, who got the goals.
Manchester City got their act together as a team in the 2nd period, but Carlos Tevez was one man, who looked charged up for the match right from the go. Right in the 4th minute of the match Tevez unleashed a fierce volley that scraped
just wide of the goal.
Just 2 minutes later Blackpool were again on defence, as the left footer Adam Johnson let one fly from just outside the box  but goalkeeper Matt Gilks was there to tip it over. The home team did respond well, but DJ Campbell could not make use of a good
ball played to him inside the area and shot wide.
Vincent Komapny was the next man to go close, but his strong header from a corner was caught easily by Gilks.
Bearing in mind that Blackpool was coming on the back of a win against Liverpool, confidence was flowing for the home team. Following a good move, Taylor-Fletcher found space in the box, but his shot was more close to the corner flag than to the goalpost.
Campbell also had his share of chances but headed a good chance over the cross bar from close range.
In the 2nd half it was Blackpool, who came closest to a goal, on the 54th minute mark when Luke Varney set in a perfect cross for Dj Campbell, who once again could not make it count.
Blackpool finally paid for missing a number of good chances as Tevez managed to open the scoring on the 67th minute mark.  The front man got on the end of a good cross from David Silva, who had just been sent on the pitch. Tevez gathered the ball
well and slammed it home.
James Milner could have doubled the lead soon after, but Gilks did well to track back and tip it over the chipped attempt.
The home side did get level with 12 minutes left in the game, when another former West Ham man scored. Marlon Harewood got on the end of a floated in-ball from a free kick and headed it home.
The frenzy in the final minutes continued, as Tevez took only a minute to regain the lead for City. He got the ball from Ian Evatt and let it fly from a distance as the ball took a deflection from Cathcart and ended up in the back of the net.
The Manchester City Captain, who had the bit between his teeth, took another swipe in an effort to complete his hat trick. The ball bounced off the crossbar and David Silva was there to make it 3-1.
Taylor-Fletcher did add one more for the home team to make it 3-2 in injury time, but it was the grit of Manchester City that had earned them the win. Blackpool gave a good account of themselves but probably the millions spent over last 2 years did come
to City’s aid in the end.
