Manchester Derby will be crucial: Sir Alex Ferguson
Manchester United’s legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted that the Manchester derby could decide the title race.
Manchester United are currently leading the Barclays Premier League table and are five points ahead of their city rivals with one match in hand. The Red Devils are favourites to win their record 19th Premier League title in the ongoing 2010-11
season, which will take them above Liverpool in the overall title race.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s team has mostly enjoyed the top spot of the table and were unbeaten until recently when they suffered their first defeat of the season against bottom-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Despite Saturday’s crucial Manchester derby, the Red Devils still have to play two matches against Chelsea and have trips to Anfield and Emirates to face http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 and Arsenal respectively.
Manchester City are currently placed third in the League, one point behind second-placed Arsenal and five points behind the League leaders. The Citizens would be aiming to crush Manchester United’s dream of landing their record 19th title by getting
all three points at Old Trafford.
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has claimed that Saturday’s result against Manchester City could make or break their season.
“It won't be decided tomorrow but the game could be decisive for whoever gets a result when you look back. At this stage of the season you are going to see a lot of important games. There could be a focus on tomorrow or the matches against Chelsea or http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-Maseru-c38430
because the later into the season it goes, the more important the games become because you don't have much time to recover,” said Ferguson.
The Scottish manager of the Red Devils added that every single game in the League is important but matches against the big guns have more significance.
Arsenal are currently Manchester United’s title rivals, as the Gunners are only four points behind the Red Devils. Even though Chelsea are 10 points behind Manchester United but Sir Alex feels that the Blues are one of the biggest threats to his hopes of
winning the record breaking title.
“There has been a consistent thread in the Premier League for the last 14 years. It has been Arsenal, ourselves and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786. You have to respect they were the winners last year. They are the champions. But City are in a challenging position, there is no
question about that. On the run towards the finishing line you will get a lot of interesting games and City are involved in that,” said the Scotsman.
Should Manchester United emerge victorious on Saturday, it will be hard for any Premier League team to catch them as they will go seven points clear of second-placed Arsenal and eight points ahead of city rivals Manchester City.
If City manage their second win at Old Trafford in four seasons and end Manchester United’s unbeaten home record, it will take the Sky Blues within a touching distance of their neighbours.
