Manchester Puppy Cup: heats one and two
The Keith Swain Manchester Puppy Cup begins Wednesday at Belle Vue with four heats over 470m. The top three from each heat will advance to the semi-finals.
Heat one
Ballymackey Ace will race from trap one. He won his last race on 1 October, and has won 5 of 11 career races. There are a couple of other hounds in this race that will challenge for first place, but Ace is as good as any of them.
In trap two is Niborneps Piphen, who has only finished outside the top three once in her career, and has seven career race wins. This could be number eight.
Rayvin Neasa only has one race to speak of, a victory on 10 September, but he clocked an impressive 27.68 in a solo run on 30 September. Neasa could be a born winner, but he’ll have to actually race to know for sure. He’ll go from trap three.
Ballymac Louise drew trap four. She started her career with three straight wins, but her results of late have been mixed. She took second in an A1 race on 24 September, but had finished in fourth the race before that, and fifth the race after. It will be
difficult for her to win this race against a strong field.
In trap five is Seathwaite Ville, who finished fifth in his last race, an A2 race. He’s got a couple of wins under his belt, but more fifth and sixth place finishes.
Racing from the sixth trap will be Soviet Fantasy. She has looked impressive in most of her races and put up a time of 28.17 over 470 metres on 19 August. She could see longer odds than are justified.
Heat two
In the first trap is Baliff Lucy, winner of two straight. She’s only finished out of the top three once in her career, but typically runs at an A4 or A5 level.
In the second trap is Tudor Prince. He’s won five of his last six races, and won an A1 race in June. He also recorded a time of 27.79 over 470 metres in his last race. Prince should finish in the top three, and has a chance to win this race.
Borna Coin is another strong racer; he’ll be coming from trap three. Coin has finished either first or second in his past five races, and it’s a good bet to expect the same in this race.
After finishing last in her first race, Kellie went on to finish first or second in her next eight races. Her time of 28.19 was slower than Prince’s but quicker than every other competitor in this race. She’ll race from trap four.
In trap five is Droopys Victor. He’s only got two races so far, but he won one of them and finished second in the other.
Southwind Piper will go from trap six. He’s only raced once, but he won that race by 6¾ lengths. That’s not enough to be a proven winner, but it’s enough to take a chance on him if the odds are long enough.
