Manchester Puppy Cup: heats three and four
Belle Vue will host the first round of the Keith Swain Manchester Puppy Cup on Thursday. Four heats over 470m will determine the field for the semi-finals.
Heat three
Ballymac Denis won his last race, but finished dead last in the race before that. Overall he has quite a few wins, but he’s also had a couple of stinkers because of missed breaks. He’s coming from trap one in this race so he shouldn’t miss his break.
In trap two is Supreme Saunders. She’s won a few A4 and A5 races, and most recently an A2 race, but she seems to only be on her game half of the time. The rest of the time she’s finishing between third and fifth. She’s a risk in this one.
Whiteoak Striker will look to strike a win from trap three. He won his last A2 race, and has finished in the top three in his past five races.
Tonbrie Ji, in trap four, has won all four of his career races, each one by at least five lengths. He also clocked a time of 27.77 seconds over 470 metres. He’s a good bet if you like winners.
In trap five is Ballymac West, who has won three of his four career races, including his last, an A2 race.
In the sixth trap is Farley Woody. He likes the middle and will want to push inside from trap six. He wins, but not consistently, and this will be his first race from the outside trap. It’s best to avoid taking chances on Woody.
Heat four
Ballymac Drogba has only finished out of the top three twice. Once was a fourth place finish in a tight race, and the other was a sixth place finish after he fell. Since that fall he has only raced once, but he should be good to go from trap one on Wednesday.
In trap two is Townbrow Fly. She’s only got one career win and is not likely to add to that on Wednesday.
Moving Marge will be in trap three. She has four wins in six career races, and her last win was in an A2 race on 2 October. The field in this heat isn’t as tough as other heats, and Marge could take advantage of that.
In the fourth trap is Blue Blood, a hound with three career races, one of them a win. Blood ran the 470m in 28.10 on 30 September, a pretty decent time. He should advance to the semi-finals.
Droopys Luisao will race from trap five. He won his last race on 28 September, and wins about 50 percent of his races in general. He’s also recorded a time of 27.68 over 470m. He could be neck-and-neck at the finish line with Moving Marge in this race.
The sixth trap will house Scala Maldini, a middle racer. He’s won three of six races from the inside traps, but has yet to be tested from the outside trap. It could go either way for Maldini on Wednesday.
