Manchester United 1-1 Blackpool: Half-time report – Premier League update
Manchester United and Blackpool went into the locker rooms at half-time on level terms at 1-1 during their Sunday fixture. Ji-Sung Park was the man on the score sheet for United while Charlie Adams knocked in a superb free kick to get his team on level terms.
The first half saw United make several chances but was only able use of just one. Blackpool on the other hand did not sit back either and gave United a good run for their money.
There could not be two teams playing for two completely different honours. Manchester United have nothing to lose from this game, as they have already won the League title and are just looking to go through motions to lift the trophy at the end of the 90
minutes. On the other hand Blackpool are playing for their lives and a win may be able to keep them in the Premiership for one more season.
However, as the game kicked-off, one could not distinguish which team was playing to avoid relegation and which one was the Champion. Both teams looked committed to win the game and there were plenty of chances at both ends in first 10 minutes of the game.
Charlie Adams, the best player for Blackpool this season by a long distance, was in the thick of things early and after beating two players on his way to the bye-line played a cut back ball which was wasted by DJ Campbell. Moments later, at the other end,
Dimitar Berbatov laid off a long ball from his chest which was smashed on the volley by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rafael-c30339 da Silva but the keeper did well to save it.
Adams set up one more chance for Blackpool and this time it was Gary Taylor Fletcher who missed an easy chance from inside the box. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Darren-Fletcher-c10361 and after shifting the ball
on his right foot the shot lacked venom and was saved easily.
United finally got the breakthrough after 21 minutes. Berbatov was once again played in with a long ball from Fletcher and the Bulgarian played Park in with a well played through ball. The South Korean chased the ball inside the box and some confusion between
the keeper and centre-back allowed Park to sneak in and chip the ball over the keeper.
Blackpool responded strongly and knew that they could not lie down and had to fight to remain in the league. Inspiration came once again from their talismanic midfielder, Charlie Adams, who got a chance to prove his metal from a dead-ball and knocked in
a scorcher from just outside the box. Adams placed the left-footed free kick right in the bottom right corner and made it 1-1 five minutes before the break. It can be anybody’s game in the second half as both teams do look determined to get all three points.
