Manchester United's manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, relishes crunch fixtures: EPL News
Manchester United's manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, is looking forward to crunch fixtures as the English Premier League season approaches the finishing line.
Traditionally, United are known to be as slow starters and reach to full throttle in the second half of Premier League campaign and this time around it is not looking to be any different.
At present the Red Devils are setting the pace in the Premier League, so far they have collect 73 points and have a six point advantage over their nearest challengers, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786. With only
four rounds of games remaining in the campaign, United winning their 19th league title will be a safe bet.
Many teams are feeling the pressure to perform as the season draws to end, notably Arsenal saw their title dreams shattered. Once serious title contenders, the Gunners have dropped to the
third place in the EPL standings following a dismal spell. A recent 2-1 defeat at the hands of Bolton Wanderers saw them drop nine points behind the Red Devils.
On the other hand, Ferguson claims he is confident that the Red Devils will be able to collect the required seven points from their remaining fixtures which will guarantee them Premier League
silverware.
He said, "We have always done well in the springtime, We look forward to these games. At the start of the season players have the opportunity to be where we are now. These run-ins are hard,
but the more experience you get the better you can handle that and we have done all right in the past."
Furthermore, United also have their eyes set on the UEFA Champions League crown, the Red Devils currently hold a two goal advantage over German team Schalke'04 in the semi-final tie, with
the second leg going to take place on May 4, at Old Trafford.
A successful season has enabled Ferguson to silence the critics, however, the Scot maintains he does not give much attention to negative media coverage.
He said, "I don't really concern myself with things like that. Some criticism of our away form was justified, but at Old Trafford it has been magnificent.
United will travel to the Emirates Stadium, for a crunch EPL fixture against Arsenal on May 1, 2011.
