Manchester United News – Ryan Giggs aim for title No# 12
Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs is the most celebrated player in United’s illustrious history. Ranked amongst the best in the world, Ryan Giggs has defied his age and has played his natural game for the Reds all his career. He has played over 20 years at Manchester United and is the only player to play in every season of the Premier League, since it began in 1992. However like all good things, Ryan Giggs’s career may be coming to a close as many consider this season to be the Welsh’s last. Giggs therefore hopes to win the Premier league title back from Chelsea. He has already won 11 titles since his arrival at Manchester United, but wants more. He stated that United have always been near the title, but will want to win it this year one more time.
United’s previous season saw them slip to the number 2 spot with just one point between them and the Champions Chelsea. The Blues fought till the last day of the season, and won with just one point in between the two sides. Now, Giggs and Co are hungry for the title and will give it their all to get it back. Chelsea will want to be on their toes as there is nothing more dangerous than an angry Manchester United. Giggs however pointed out that Chelsea will not be the only team who will be looking for the title, and expects a very competitive season ahead. He pointed out Manchester City threat, who have made some dangerous and expensive signings this season, while Aston Villa and Spurs also look to threaten for the top four spot in the league.
Giggs is currently with his squad in a pre-season campaign in the USA. He was present at Chicago, where his team is currently training. United are to play in Toronto, Philadelphia, Kansas City and other cites, and is relishing playing for United. He highlighted the importance of winning from the start, as there may not be any room for error. All the teams are hungry of finishing better than they did last season, and teams like Manchester City and Spurs have all the makings of landing in the top four. United are however without their World Cup stars, who are on rest, and are expected to return on 28th July. They are therefore unlikely to participate in the Community Shield match and the opening game of the season. Giggs added that it has always been difficult for World Cup players to be back in time after the World Cup as they deserve a reasonable rest. He hoped that when the players do return after the time, they come back fully fit and focused on the aims of the club. That is important because the World Cup is gone and one should just come out of the glamour the World Cup provided. He expected the players to come back mentally fresh and join in with the squad to start off positively.
Manchester United are without their key players owing to rest, which include striker Wayne Rooney, Midfielders Michael Carrick, Park Ji Sung, Defenders Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra, and United’s new signing Javier Hernandez. The squad will be hoping to get these players back fully fresh and focused on the job at hand. It may well be Giggs and Scholes last season with United, and both veterans will want to end their illustrious and celebrated careers on a high. Similarly, United will be looking to break arch rivals Liverpool’s league record, as both are currently tied with 18 each. Sir Alex Ferguson is also reaching the age of retirement, and he will want to cement a permanent name into history of English Football by winning the 19th title, and will be counting on the fitness and concentration of his key players.
