Manchester United News – Ryan Giggs aiming for title no. 12
Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs is the most celebrated player in United’s illustrious history. Ranked amongst the best in the world, Ryan Giggs has defied his age and has played his natural game for the Reds for his entire career.
He has played over 20 years at Manchester United and is the only player to play in every season of the Premier League, since it began in 1992. However like all good things, Ryan Giggs’s career may be coming to a close as many consider this season to be the Welsh’s last. Giggs therefore hopes to win the Premier league title back from Chelsea. He has already won 11 titles since his arrival at Manchester United, but wants more. He stated that United have always been near the title, but will want to win it this year one more time.
United’s previous season saw them slip to the number 2 spot with just one point between them and Champions Chelsea. The Blues fought till the last day of the season, and won with just one point in between the two sides. At present, Giggs and Co. are hungry for the title and will give it their all to get it back. Chelsea will want to be on their toes as there is nothing more dangerous than an angry Manchester United. Giggs however pointed out that Chelsea will not be the only team who will be looking for the title, and expects a very competitive season ahead. He pointed out Manchester City as a threat who have made some dangerous and expensive signings this season. Meanwhile Aston Villa and Spurs also look to threaten for the top four spot in the league.
He highlighted the importance of winning from the start, as there may not be any room for error. All the teams are hungry of finishing better than they did last season, and teams like Manchester City and Spurs have all the makings of landing in the top four.
The squad will be hoping to get these players back fully fresh and focused on the job at hand. It may well be Giggs and Scholes farewell season with United, and both veterans will want to end their illustrious and celebrated careers on a high. Similarly, United will be looking to break arch rivals Liverpool’s league record, as both are currently tied with 18 each. Sir Alex Ferguson is also reaching the age of retirement, and he will want to cement a permanent name in the history of English Football by winning the 19th title, and will be counting on the fitness and concentration of his key players.
Giggs added that Manchester United would need goals from everyone in order to regain the coveted title. Last year, following the departure of star players Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez, United relied heavily on the services of one Wayne Rooney, who managed to bag 34 goals in all competitions. The English International has however failed to find form this season. Rooney went on a 13 games goal drought for club and country, before finally putting the ball on the back of the net last weekend. Dimitar Berbatov and Nani have found top form recently, filling the boots of Rooney. However, many expect the former Everton player to start scoring more goals after scoring after a gap of 13 matches.
With so much on the line this season for Manchester United, Giggs emphasized on team effort rather than on a one man show. "But everyone needs to chip in, midfielders, defenders, everyone. As a team, we need to score a lot more goals from different areas on the pitch,” claimed the veteran midfielder.
Giggs and some other retired internationals are on a two week leave, owing to Euro 2012 qualifiers. That would be needed for these players as a hectic schedule follows in the form of the Carling Cup, the domestic League and the UEFA Champions league.
