Manchester United: Wayne Rooney injured and Federico Macheda set to go on loan
Manchester United striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 sustained a minor ankle injury in his club’s match against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday. The English front man will now miss Tuesday’s game between United and Stoke City.
During the game against West Brom, Rooney scored his first goal from open play since last March when he scored against Bayern Munich during the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. He had been playing well since coming back from
his previous injury, but the goals had still eluded him. The only two goals he had got this season were from the penalty spot.
His goal during the West Brom game finally ended that drought, however, as he deflected a cross from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gabriel-Obertan-c14324 into the bottom left corner to open the scoring. But in the second half, Rooney took a kick on the ankle from
West Brom’s Christ Brunt and had to go off for treatment. He did make it back later on and assisted in the second goal, but he clearly looked like he was in pain. Later it was revealed that he might have to miss United’s next game. Sir Alex Ferguson fears
Rooney might be out for as long as two weeks, but Rooney himself has reportedly told friends he will be back in action this weekend when Manchester United play against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 in the third round of the FA cup.
Meanwhile, another Manchester United striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Federico-Macheda-c13475, is on his way out of the club on loan. Macheda, who has made only two Premier League starts for United this season, has confirmed that he will be moving to Sampdoria
on loan for the rest of the season.
"There are still a couple of faxes [to be sent] but sometime between Wednesday and Thursday I will be in Italy," Macheda told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Ferguson had earlier expressed his eagerness to send his player on loan to a club that could guarantee regular football for the 19-year-old, and stated a preference for Macheda opting for an English Premier League club.
"Macheda has to play games," Ferguson was quoted as saying by The Daily Mail. "Clubs who convince me and the player that he'll get games are the ones we'll consider. He's thinking about Italy, but I hope it's going to be in the
Premier League because it is competitive and it's where he is going to end up playing."
"We hope to close everything by tonight and Federico could be available by Sunday. The idea is a loan until June," said Macheda’s agent, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Giovanni-c14985 Bia.
Bia also talked about the possibility of the loan being prolonged, but admitted that his client would most probably return to Old Trafford. "It is 99% he would go straight back to Manchester United."
Macheda made his name at Manchester United instantly as an impact player. In his very first outing as part of the senior Manchester United team, the 17-year-old came on and scored a fantastic winner against Aston Villa. That made
him an overnight hero at the club and he did the same in the next game against Sunderland and made everyone stand up and take notice. However, due to a lack of opportunities he has not been able to do much since then. A loan move away from the club may just
be the thing he needs to grow as a player and establish himself as a frontline striker at Manchester United.
"In this regard, we are all happy because in six months' time, Manchester United will get a stronger player," said Macheda.
