Manchester United all set for 3rd Carling Cup trophy
Manchester United travel to Upton Park this night to win their third Carling Cup in a row. Sir Alex Ferguson will offer his youth another chance to write their names in history with their momentum being the key after United's ramping 7-1 win over Blackburn
Rovers at Old Trafford last week.
Sir Alex Ferguson could make 7 changes to the side that defeated Blackburn with keeper Ben Amos, Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling, Chicharito, Gabriel Obertan, Macheda and Bebe to start. It would offer the young Red Devils an oppurtunity to shine. Obertan scored
a scorcher against Bursaspor and Bebe scored his terrific brace for the reserves recently.
But, it will be United's youngsters who would be facing the heat as well. With Hernández’s scoring record this season, few would bet against the striker hitting the net again tonight. Meanwhile, Ben Amos, who is surprisingly promoted to number three keeper,
has said that he is learning from Edwin van der Sar every day. “I’ve said a few times that it is a little bit like training with your dad,” the Macclesfield-born added. Fans hope he does his best.
Sir Alex set his sights on the hatrick of Carling Cup wins after qualifying to the semi finals with his young guns. Reds' last defeat in the Carling Cup was three years ago in September 2007 when Coventry caused a shock at Old Trafford. United have since
won the trophy twice, in 2009 and 2010.
United’s recent record against West Ham is notable too. Ferguson’s side has scored 13 goals without reply against the Hammers in the last five meetings between the sides, with the Red Devils winning the last half-dozen encounters. West Ham are expected to
field a strong team, although their key players Frederic Piquionne, Valon Behrami and Scott Parker would probably miss the game through injury.
West Ham vs. Manchester United could become a delight for the Mighty Young Reds. They cannot get any better than on this occasion. All the young Reds are ready to impress Sir Alex and to ensure their bright future to the fans. We just have to wait and watch
the outcome of today's match.
