Manchester United and Liverpool track Standard Liege midfielder Steven Defour
According to reports in British media, fierce rivals Manchester United and Liverpool are both tracking the Standard Liege midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Defour-c34194, despite the Belgian international agreeing a new five-year deal to stay at his
current club.

Sir Alex Ferguson is a huge admirer of the central midfielder and has been monitoring the player’s progress since the last couple of years.
The Manchester United boss once wrote a heartening letter to the player after Defour suffered a horrific career threatening injury on his leg, which ruled him out of the 2008/09 campaign.
Liverpool’s new Director of Football, Damien Comolli has been tasked with finding the best talent for the Anfield club. He along with Kenny Dalglish have also registered an interest with the Belgian club and have asked to keep
them updated on player’s potential move.

Amidst continuous speculation linking the 23-year-old with a move away from the club, the player dropped a bombshell on his possible suitors by signing a new deal. This has however, not deterred his admirers who are still eager to secure his signing. The player
has just returned to the first team after two years on the sidelines with a leg injury and was quick to repay his club by extending his contract.
“Well Steven has signed a new five-year deal at Standard Liege.” Paul Stefani revealed to the media

He went on to add, “The club have a lot of confidence in him and they have been brilliant. I don’t know anything about Liverpool and Manchester United as we are only focused on him being fit. In the future…who knows?”

The reports reveals that both http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 and Manchester United still maintain an interest in Defour, but his agent was instead stressing on his client's ability to rediscover the form which made him one of the most sought after players.
Stefani concluded: “There are four more games and then we will see. I don’t know what will happen in the summer, but Steven is concentrating on staying fit – maybe in the future, but he must now get back to his best and start playing
football. Then we will see.”
