Sir Alex Ferguson is very optimistic about the young lot at Old Trafford. The United manager after the match with MLS all stars expressed his delight on the new signing Javier Hernandez. He said that the Mexican has immense pace and could be one of the most potent weapons for United in the upcoming season. Hernandez scored in his first appearance for the club at the pre season tour in United States.
Manchester United played MLS all stars in the penultimate match of the tour, Hernandez linked up with the team after arriving from Mexico following his extended leave after the World Cup in South Africa. The front man was instantly in the thick of things and played an important role in the 5-2 win.
The Mexican international made his way on the pitch in the 2nd half; as soon as he got on the field there was a rapturous applause from United fans as well as the strong contingency of Mexican fans present at the Reliant Stadium.
Another young united striker Federico Macheda opened the scoring in the first minute, later Darron Gibson and Tom Cleverley came on as substitutes and got their names on the score sheet. Ferguson said that he is very heartened by the performance of his young team, and strongly believes that the future for Red Devils is looking bright.
Ferguson said that Hernandez was very impressive and adapted to the team in no time; he said that the defenders in the league will have problems dealing with his pace. He said that it is phenomenal that Javier was able to score for United in his very first game. Ferguson added that even if one looks at his goal, it was his raw pace that enabled him to get behind the defenders and that will be his key weapon in the upcoming season.
Macheda who made an impact at Old Trafford when he scored a late winner against Aston Villa in 2008; that was his first game in the senior side of United. He repeated the dose remarkably in the very next match. Still injuries got the better of him next season, but now he looks to be back to his best. The Italian was helped by the All Stars defender Kevin Alston who laid off a back pass to the striker. Macheda did not complain and made full use of it smashing in the ball in the very first minute.
Ferguson said that among all young players at United, Macheda has always been the one with best finishing ability. The manager said that he sees the teenager making a big name for himself at the club; Ferguson added that at this age there needs to be a process of bringing up a player like him. Old Trafford boss said that the next season will be a big test in determining how far he can go with the club.
Gibson scored the 2nd with a free kick, following a challenge on the Mexican striker Hernandez. Gibson made good use of the set piece and curled the ball over the wall and into the net.
The 3rd goal from cleverly was not far behind, the youngster flicked his way over Wilman Conde and a fantastic finish made Ferguson jump out of his seat and applaud.
 
Regarding Cleverley’s goal Ferguson said that the amount of confidence and awareness of players around him showed his composure and the finishing also matched the skill that led to the goal.
MLS all stars have had a good record in such matches, and have been able to get better of especially the English teams that have visited over the years. Manchester United won 5-2 and look good ahead of the start of the season.
