Manchester United beat Schalke 4-1 (agg 6-1) make it to Champions League final – Second half report
Manchester United almost strolled into the final of the UEFA Champions League at the expense of Schalke, as they beat the German team 4-1 on the night and 6-1 on aggregate.
Manchester United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson, had started the game with almost a second string first eleven. But still there was plenty of quality in the team and Schalke did not have any free bees on offer.
Schalke did start the game with great intensity, but Antonio Valencia scored midway through the first half to make it 3-0 on aggregate. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Darron-Gibson-c10368 made it 2-0 on the night moments later. Just before the break Schalke made it 2-1 to make it interesting
in the 2nd half.
The German side knew that they needed three goals without reply in the last 45 minutes to make a miraculous comeback. So they started with a much more attacking setup after the break. That was all that United needed to catch them on the break.
Schalke enjoyed plenty of possession in the early stages of the second half. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-c30652 teed up German international Farfan for a header from close range but he was off target.
That was followed by a flurry of corners for the visitors, but Manchester United did not allow Schalke to make use of any of those opportunities.
As Schalke began to attack with more urgency, there were spaces to exploit for United. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nani-c27299 found himself all alone following a knockdown from Dimitar Berbatov but the Portuguese was off side.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dimitar-Berbatov-c11254 once again played a telling ball and this time it was Anderson, who was on the receiving end of the pass. The Brazilian used his left foot to direct the ball towards the far post but Neuer palmed it away. Manchester United were closing in
on a third, and the visitors had no option but to keep attacking.
United finally made the first change of the game, Rafael da Silva looked a bit uncomfortable and was replaced by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Patrice-Evra-c29231.
Manchester United finally made it 3 on the night, and it was an unlikely source that the goal came from. Nani was the one, who created the goal from the flank. He made a surging run down the flank and made it all the way to the bye-line before cutting it
back to Anderson. The left footer slipped in his first attempt but got back up quickly and knocked it in under the keeper.
Moments later, Anderson doubled his tally for the club, as he got his second of the game and fourth in total for the club in nearly four seasons.  http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Antonio-Valencia-c6345 played a beautiful through ball from the flank and found Berbatov’s run, who played it across
the goal to Anderson, who tapped it in to make it 4-1.
That is how the match ended and now Manchester United has a date with Barcelona on 28th of May.
The final will be played at Wembley in London, and will be a repeat of the 2009 Champions League final where Barcelona out played Manchester United and won the cup. Sir Alex Ferguson will be itching to win the final and get sweet revenge over the Catalan
giants for the one sided defeat two seasons ago.
