Manchester United finally ended the away game Voodoo this season, and completed only their 2nd away win as they beat West Brom 2-1 at the Hawthorns. It was a game that was never expected to be an easy affair for United. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 broke his
goal drought and knocked in his first goal from open play since March just in the 4th minute of the game. However, a wonder strike from Morrison from the edge of the box got the home side level less than 10 minutes later. It was not until the late
2nd half, when the substitute Javier Hernandez headed in a corner to give United the lead, that another goal was scored and United thus secured all 3 points.
The match started at a good pace in the first half, but the goal scored by Rooney, a well placed header, hardly had any pace on it as he was set up by Obertan from the by-line. Manchester United, boosted by the early goal started to build on it and started
to exert further pressure on the Baggies. Rooney was looking good and full of confidence after scoring the goal. West Brom, though, did come back after the initial hammering and started to play some decent football. It was a misplaced clearance from Nemanja
Vidic that landed in the tracks of Morrison who was running in and smashed it on the volley into the top corner. It was all level and West Brom were looking up for a fight. For the next 15 minutes, United were given a real fight by the home team and were pushed
back into their own half. Before the half time whistle, United did start to get back in the game but stats clearly stated that West Brom had the upper hand as the teams made their way into the locker rooms at 1-1.
In the second half, the Baggies picked up where they had left off- by going on the attack. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chris-c9006 Brunt worked space for a shot on the edge of the area, but it curled a couple of yards wide.
United also started playing better. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Patrice-Evra-c29231 and Wayne Rooney linked up on the left, and Rooney got into the area but his low cross was easily cleared.
The Baggies were unlucky again when Chris Brunt whipped in a corner and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tomasz-Kuszczak-c35329 beaten.
Sir Alex Ferguson then decided to make couple of changes; http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dimitar-Berbatov-c11254.
West Brom had been denied a penalty in the first half, but they were not to be denied twice. Chris Foy got that one right- http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Peter-Odemwingie-c29794 dragged his penalty
horribly wide and did not even test the United keeper. It remained one all and United knew it was theirs to win from then on.
Finally the winner came, and it turned out to be an inspired substitution. Wayne Rooney sent in a corner from the left and Javier Hernandez, completely unmarked, headed it home from inside the six-yard box. This was the 3rd time Hernandez had
got a winner for United after coming from the bench. United managed to hold on to their lead this time and cemented their lead at top of the table moving onto 41 points from 19 games.
