Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson brushes off Chelsea penalty claims
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has dismissed Chelsea’s penalty claims and hails his team’s extraordinary performance in a historic win over Carlo Ancelotti’s men at Stamford Bridge in the first leg of the UEFA Championship quarter-final.
Manchester United won the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final by defeating Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge. Moreover, it was also United’s first win at west London since 2002.

However, Carlo Ancelotti’s men had plenty of chances to equalise, but the home side failed to capitalize on them. One of the most noted moments of the match was when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Patrice-Evra-c29231 inside the 18-yard box. Despite a roar of appeals from
Chelsea players, the referee refused to give the penalty and Sir Alex Ferguson feels that justice was done as it was the first ever decision that went in United’s favour at Stamford Bridge since 2005.
Ferguson said, “To be honest with you, it looks as if the player made the most of it. If it was a penalty, it's the first decision we've had here in seven years, so I don't feel guilty. There’s plenty of talk irrespective of penalty claims and dives and
I thought the players were great.”
Even though Manchester United did not start well, they managed to get a first-half goal. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ryan-Giggs-c31985 on the opposite flank. The Welsh winger overlapped Chelsea defender Bosingwa
before playing a low cross inside the penalty box towards Rooney. The English striker placed the ball in the far corner to put United a goal ahead of Chelsea.
Moreover, Sir Alex Ferguson hailed his team’s outstanding performance at Stamford Bridge but singled out http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 for the praise. The English striker continued his decent goalscoring run and after scoring a hat-trick against West Ham United on the weekend,
he was once again on target against Chelsea which was also the only goal of the night.
Sir Alex said, “Wayne was in tremendous form and has given us a really great opportunity to get to the semi-final. He got a lot of abuse tonight and late tackles on him but he got up and played which shows the courage of the player. I think the whole team
should take great credit.”
Manchester United are favourites to make it through to the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League as they have not lost a single European tie ever after winning the first leg. The second leg will be played at Old Trafford on 12 April, 2011.
