Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson disappointed by Rooney’s two-match ban
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed his disappointment at the Football Association’s (FA) decision to hand Wayne Rooney a two-match ban for inappropriate behaviour. The striker was handed the punishment for his foul-mouthed celebration following his hat-trick against West Ham United last weekend.
United have appealed against the verdict, but manager Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that he does not expect the decision to be overturned. The Scot, who was on the receiving end of a five-match touchline ban just a few weeks ago, claims that he is disappointed with the FA for taking such harsh action for what he feels is a small misdemeanour.
Speaking on the ban, Ferguson said, “Fair is a word... I don't know if you can use that word 'fair' any longer. We put an appeal in that the lad wrote, his apologies for swearing, but obviously I don't think we expected to get a result to be honest with you.”
The ban will see Wayne Rooney miss out on his side’s Premier League clash against Fulham on Saturday, as well as the vital FA Cup semi-final encounter against bitter rivals Manchester City. It has left Sir Alex Ferguson with some tough decisions to make regarding team selection, but he believes the absence of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 will not mean that United will be pushovers.
He added, “We're disappointed, but we have to get on with it. We'll be united with it when we face the problem because we've got a good squad and the players have been showing fantastic determination recently, and we're going be hard to beat, that's for sure."
Rooney’s absence means that Javier Hernandez and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dimitar-Berbatov-c11254 will start for United, at least for the next two games. The two strikers are in the form of their lives at the moment, and both have scored in double figures for the Red Devils this season.
Manchester United currently lead the Barclays Premier League standings with 66 points. They are seven points ahead of nearest competitors Arsenal.
