Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson gives the media the silent treatment
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is avoiding the media to protest against the coverage given to his comments against referee Martin Atkinson. Ferguson accused Atkinson of bias after his side’s 2-1 defeat to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 last week, resulting in the
United boss being charged with improper conduct by the Football Association (FA).
Speaking after the match, Ferguson had said, “You want a fair referee, or a strong referee anyway. We didn’t get that. When I saw who the referee was, I feared it. I feared the worst.”
It seems that Ferguson has not taken too kindly to the furor surrounding his allegedly innocent remarks. The Scot is refusing to speak to the press since he was charged with improper conduct by the FA.
The media blackout continued on Sunday, even after Manchester United’s 3-1 defeat to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 at Anfield. The club cancelled all interviews after the match. For the first time, even Manchester United’s own television channel, MUTV, left a senior game without
any post-match reactions.
It might be just as well that Sir Alex did not speak to the press after the match. The Scot would undoubtedly have been incensed that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international
lunged in on Nani, leaving a long gash down the Portuguese’s shin. However, Ferguson chose to keep his opinions to himself this time, lest he incur the wrath of the FA once again.
A club spokesman confirmed that Nani would be examined on Monday to assess the extent of the damage to his leg. The only other piece of information to come out of the United camp was from defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rio-Ferdinand-c31173. Despite not playing in the match against Liverpool,
Ferdinand let his feelings known via his twitter account.
The defender simply wrote, “Bad result today no excuses.”
With United’s FA cup quarter final against Arsenal coming up this week, it remains to be seen how long the Manchester club can continue to shut out the media.
Despite the loss to Liverpool, Manchester United currently sit in first place in the Premier League standings.
