Manchester United boss wary of FA Cup underdogs Crawley Town
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has claimed that he won’t be taking the FA Cup clash against Crawley Town lightly. The Red Devils will face the FA Cup underdogs at Old Trafford on Saturday, 19th February.
If Crawley manage to pull off a huge upset against the Premier League leaders, they will become the first side from outside the Football League to reach the quarter-final stages of England’s most prestigious cup competition. Many believe that such a feat
is unachievable, especially against the likes of Manchester United. However, manager Sir Alex Ferguson remains wary of the threat Crawley Town pose to his side’s FA Cup ambitions.
Speaking about the upcoming encounter, the United boss said, “We respect the fact that Crawley are the best non-league side for quite a while. We expect a tough game. They're very committed and aggressive and it'll be a tough game.”
The Wily Scot knows that no result can be taken for granted in the FA Cup. Sir Alex saw his side knocked out of the competition last season at the hands of Leeds, and he is keen to avoid another upset at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Ferguson said, “They talk about the FA Cup dying, but it won't die as long as you've got giant killing acts that Crawley have already produced. And every manager will tell you, you don't want to be a casualty. We lost to Leeds last season and it wasn't easy
to take. They were up for it and made it a cup tie.”
He added, “We will see the same tomorrow (Saturday 19 February). Crawley will get stuck into us, there's no other way for them. That is the way they are."
Manchester United are favourites to demolish Crawley Town when the non-leaguers travel to Old Trafford for the highly anticipated encounter.
However, as Sir Alex said, nothing is certain in the FA Cup. Can Crawley Town pull off the biggest upset in FA Cup history? We will find out on Saturday.
