Manchester United chiefs fly to Lisbon to seal a deal for Rui Patricio
According to reports in the British Media, Manchester United chiefs will fly to Lisbon to tie up a deal for Sporting Lisbon shot-stopper, Rui Patricio.
With United’s first choice goalkeeper, Edwin Van Der Sar, having announced his decision to retire at the end of the 2010/11 season, Sir Alex Ferguson is looking at different options to replace the great Dutchman.
Several players including Maarten Stekelenburg of Ajax, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-de-Gea-c10463 are tipped as possible replacements for Van Der Sar. However, De Gea has been earmarked as the ideal replacement for Van Der Sar
and reports have emerged that United are in advanced talks to sign the player.
The Portuguese club believes that United are playing mind games with them and their major target is De Gea. However, a source inside the Old Trafford rejected any rumours linking them with the Atletico Madrid goalkeeper.
United have reportedly bid 7 million pounds for Patricio but the club have told them that they would not accept anything less than 12 million pounds. The Portuguese International is more experienced than De Gea and would definitely cost less than Los Rojiblancos
keeper.
Agent of Maarten Stekelenburg coy over move to a new club
The agent of Ajax goalkeeper, Maarten Stekelenburg, has insisted that he has not received any offers for his client from the Premier League clubs. Stekelenburg has been subject of interest from few of the top clubs in Europe including A.C Milan, Juventus
and Manchester United.
Agent Jansen was quoted as saying, "There's nothing going on at the moment. There hasn't been any contact with Italian teams or with other foreign teams. With no team at all."
The agent did not rule out a foreign move for his client but insisted that they are under negotiations with Ajax for a new contract.
"Whether he prefers to move to a foreign league? I can't confirm anything at the moment. There's still the possibility that he'll sign a contract extension with Ajax, too."
The Ajax goalkeeper is touted as a replacement for Van Der Sar and United might bid for the 28-year-old in the summer.
